What Are Chemical Sensitivities?A Chemical Sensitive Person (ACS) is a person that has an allergy to any chemical, or component of a chemical, and can not tolerate it. Many chemical based compounds contain allergens that cause skin reactions when exposed to them.They are allergic to chemical compounds in allopathic medicines, vitamins, medications and even food. Some even suffer allergic reactions to food supplements such as soy protein or peanut protein.Many allergens can be identified by a patch test, which is by allergen exposure to a small patch of skin on the body and identification of the allergen by a chemical testing kit. Patch tests are effective but have limited accuracy. With the increase in the number of food allergies, the use of allergens to diagnose the condition has become necessary.Antibodies against a specific antigen is an indication of chemical sensitivities. These antibodies can be tested by a hypersensitivity IgE blood test. These tests are often done at the sam e time as the immunotherapy.With medical terminology is evolving, a few terms that are used are changing. At the present time 'allergic' is used instead of 'allergic hypersensitivity'. In the future 'chemical sensitivities' might replace the term 'allergic' or it might become part of a new term.Chemicals that cause chemical sensitivities can be identified by a patch test. Sometimes a mild topical or oral medication is recommended to avoid or reduce the effects of the symptoms. Allergic drugs can cause some side effects. As there is no real cure for chemical sensitivities, the best way to deal with them is to avoid them, and the best way to do this is to avoid chemicals.Pharmaceutical companies have developed many medicines to try and combat chemical sensitivities. However, in most cases, once the medicine is stopped, the symptoms subside, so more doctors are prescribing antihistamines, steroids and other medications to try and keep the symptoms under control.

Future Programmer Embraces the Value of STEM Education Future Programmer Embraces the Value of STEM Education Varnica, 13-years-old,  Math  Level  J,  Reading  Program Completer     The education of science,  technology, engineering, and math widely referred to as STEM, has gained popularity in recent years.  With the increase in awareness and programs available for young students, there has been an emergence in STEM-related careers, and that  demand will only continue to  rise.     At the 2015  White House Science Fair, former U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the attendees noting the importance of STEM.     “As a society, we have to celebrate outstanding work by young people in science at least as much as we do Super Bowl winners. Because superstar biologists and engineers and rocket scientists and robot-builders… they’re what’s going to transform our society. They’re the folks who are going to come up with cures for diseases and new sources of energy, and help us build healthier, more successful societies.”     13-year-old Varnica is an example of one of those young minds that has risen to the challenge.  Having gained a sense of independence  and confidence, she forged a path for herself in exploring the world of computer coding and robotics.     Varnica credits Kumon  for helping her gain  independence and boosting her confidence  â€"  allowing  herself to come out of her comfort zone.     “Kumon has helped me outside of the classroom in many different ways,” said Varnica. “Since I have been enrolled in Kumon, I have been ahead of my  peers in school  â€" allowing for time to do other things I enjoy like coding and robotics. Kumon has encouraged me to be more confident and independent, which is why I have joined various clubs and teams in my spare time.”   You see, Varnica enrolled in Kumon when she was only 3-years-old  and since became a curious learner  who is  always looking for more.  Varnica completed the  Kumon Reading Program  before entering 7th  grade.  She now has a solid grasp on literature, having already analyzed notable literary works such as  William Golding’s  Lord of the Flies  and Oscar Wilde’s  The Importance of Being Earnest.  Varnica is even studying above grade level  as she is  working on algebraic concepts like factorization and  quadratic equations  in the  Kumon Math Program.   Varnica  first discovered her love for coding and robotics when she took a chance and joined the school’s robotics club.  Immediately,  she became drawn to  coding  and later even  learned JavaScript coding for her robot. Intrigued by how coding works and the endless capabilities it brings, Varnica sees a future in  programming.   Her natural talent for coding and robotics lead her to being chosen to attend the  Girls in STEM Conference at her school.  This  conference  gives young girls  an  opportunity to participate in workshops and listen to influential speakers from across all STEM fields.  Conferences  like Girls in STEM  cultivates and inspires brilliant young minds to embrace their talents and explore the world of STEM-related careers.   When Varnica isn’t coding, she enjoys swimming and playing the piano. She has even taken up ice skating as she enjoys the thrill of gliding on the ice.   Varnica’s  hard work and discipline didn’t go unnoticed, as she was one of 55 students selected to attend the  2018 Kumon Student Conference in Calgary, Canada. We had the opportunity to speak to  Varnica  about her Kumon journey.   How has Kumon helped you inside of the classroom?   Kumon has helped me in  so many ways  academically. I  can complete my school work with ease, allowing time to solve more advanced equations. Recording my time in Kumon has increased my speed, and challenges me to reach specific goals. I now have an academic edge over my peers since I have already been introduced to many of the concepts in Kumon that are being taught in school.   What do you enjoy most about Kumon?   What I enjoy most about Kumon is that it  always gives you a challenge that turns into a learning opportunity. When I learn a new concept in Kumon that I find intriguing, it encourages  me to want to do more.  I love the independence I have gained as well. I feel a sense of pride when I  can  answer a difficult question correctly by applying what I’ve previously learned.   If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be?   Amazing. What did it mean to you attending the Student Conference?     It was such an honor to attend the Student Conference. It was an amazing experience being able to meet the speakers and other Kumon Students just like me. I am very thankful  that I was given the  opportunity.     What advice do you have for other Kumon Students?     My advice for other Kumon Students would be to remain persistent and stick with it. Kumon will become challenging at times  â€" that’s the truth. You may feel like you can’t do the work or even want to give up. Take the times you are struggling as a challenge and work through it, it will help you become a stronger student in Kumon. Before I started ALOHA, I didn’t feel as con?dent in school, and I wasn’t even fast in math. But now, I can’t believe I am this fast! While I was doing ALOHA, I felt my capacity of everything, physical, mental, incoming knowledge, etc. kept increasing. ALOHA made it easier for me to think broadly. It also helped me develop the right side of my brain. ALOHA has helped me to do my assignments fast, easily, and accurately. ALOHA didn’t only help me on math, but now I feel like I can do anything. And anything means everything! It totally opened a new path for me for an excellent destination. When I ?nished ALOHA, I really felt con?dent about all the things I did in ALOHA. I now can catch any concepts easily and fast because of ALOHA. I really loved the challenges ALOHA gave me. I believe that everyone should try ALOHA, I know that they would enjoy it. I enjoyed learning something new and I liked the challenges that ALOHA gave me. My journey through ALOHA is becoming helpful in my daily life. Going back to when I started ALOHA I was little, very interested in the abacus because it was something new. I remember when I would go to sleep, I would always imagine myself, one day, graduating from ALOHA, how I would be able to do really hard problems, being at the top of my class with good grades, and beating my friends in math with the correct answers. I would do my homework every week, and soon I began to pass each level. When I ?nished level three, I took a break because my family and I were going to India. When we came back, I started level four. I found it kind of dif?cult to get back on track, because the break that I took lasted up to three months, but I managed and was back on track in a couple of weeks. Eventually, ALOHA got harder, and I started to have a couple more mistakes than I usually did. I slowly learned multiplication, and division, and then square roots. And when I was on level eight, I just couldn’t wait to ?nish the book. I was really excited. I am now really proud of myself for ?nishing ALOHA. My journey also helped me keep a faster pace in math than I usually did. ALOHA not only helped me in math, it also helped me give a higher quality of work to my teachers in every subject. My homework seems a lot easier to me and I can finish it faster. It also seems that a light bulb in my head is blinking faster with ideas and solutions. I am also noticing that my memory capacity has increased. I can remember formulas for math, and de?nitions of unknown words easily and quickly. I can remember and catch minute details faster than students in my class who haven’t taken ALOHA. This makes me really proud of myself. My struggles have varied. Sometimes I wouldn’t have enough time to ?nish pages in my homework, or it would be the opposite, and I would have to ?nish the pages that I didn’t do at home. Because I am in seventh grade for the last two trimesters at Frost Junior High, I get lot of homework, at least more homework than I would have started at a younger age. But I would ?nish my homework and do the pages in my ALOHA homework book. I also struggled a little when doing mind math because I was so used to calculating in my head the other way. But because I practiced, I grew stronger in my weaker area. I kept with the program because, as I said before, I really enjoyed the new challenges ALOHA gave me every day, and mostly because I began to see improvements in my work, and started to provide better quality in my work. I received support from my parents, who played a huge role in my accomplishments. They supported me when I got bored about doing pages in my homework book, or if I get really frustrated when I can’t do something right. My mom would always sit with me and help me solve the problems, even though she might have her own work to do. ALOHA offers a great path for your future. ALOHA will help me reach my goals and start a career in the future that would be bright and unique. When my kids started to progress slowly in ALOHA, I could see the growth that they had been making when I would do their school work with them. When my kids were done with ALOHA, they needed less help on their homework than they usually did. This is done by multiplying percentage with 360 degree. Then with the help of a protractor the graph is drawn. This circle graphs are very useful tool and explained by the following examples. Example 1: A collection of 200 people are sitting in a room. These are 3 colored chairs; 80 sitting on red, 60 sitting on blue, and 60 sitting on green. Calculate the percentage and degrees of the circle graph.
